WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR IN HOME SESSION

Hi there! I am so very excited for our upcoming session! I can’t wait to capture beautiful images of your family! Custom photography is such a wonderful way to capture authentic images of your family, and in home sessions are so special as we also document your home!

Time and length of session. I only use natural light in my photography, and late morning is a good time to shoot indoors as the light that enters your home during this time is typically nice and soft. The session will last for about one hour.

Where in your home will we be photographing? We will only shoot in areas of your home where there is enough natural light. Sometimes it’s not possible to shoot in a room that you had in mind in the case that it’s not lit well enough. When I arrive I will walk around your home to look for the rooms with the best light.

What to wear? The most important thing is that you’re comfortable! I also recommend that you avoid graphics/logos and text on clothing. For in home shoots, the best look is a relaxed and comfortable wardrobe, yet stylish! Blending neutral colors with a pop of color or two is a beautiful look. For inspiration, you can see a Pinterest board with examples here. Oh and also, I may ask for you to take your socks off (don’t think I’m crazy) as this typically looks much better for in home photographs than with them on :-)

What to expect from me? I want to be sure that we capture all special moments from your session. I may sometimes ask to move small pieces of furniture, and it’s also good if you keep a laundry basket nearby in the case we want to put things aside. I will most likely ask to raise all blinds, or to lower them if need be. Also I will remind you not to turn on any artificial lights at all :-)! In addition, I should probably also mention that I might stand on your couch or bed for variety in angles while shooting! To capture beautiful images filled with joy, I may ask you to sing, tickle, hug, have your children “upside down” and so on!

I don’t want you to worry about what to do in the photographs. I will be directing and moving you around. Just remember not to look in the camera (unless I tell you to do so), but no worries, I will be reminding you about this throughout the session. I will focus on capturing the connection, the closeness and the love in your family and I won’t ask for you to be anything but yourself!

Preparing children. I recommend that you treat your photography session as “the event of the day” and not to have other major plans so that everyone can feel relaxed and go with the flow time wise. Before the session, if you have smaller children, please prepare your child by saying that a friend is coming to visit to take some pictures of your family. It is always best not to surprise them. During the session, please don’t worry if your child is “not behaving”. I have three children of my own so there is literally nothing that will surprise me :-) I will not force your child to do anything that he or she doesn’t want to do, and we will simply go with the flow.

What to expect after the shoot? You will receive your digital images in approximately 3-4 weeks following the session. You will receive an email with a link that takes you directly to the online gallery. From here you can view and download images.

Thank you for trusting in me as your photographer! I truly can’t wait to meet you and to capture beautiful images of your family! See you soon!
